The federal government’s definition of chronic homelessness includes homeless individuals with a disabling condition (substance use disorder, serious mental illness, developmental disability, or chronic physical illness or disability) who have been homeless either 1) continuously for one whole year, or 2) four or more times in the past three years.
The above definition of the Chronic Homeless population, by Its own standard lies at the very root of the homeless problem in This country and The continued failure to in any way bring resolve too the problem. The definition first caries with it certain connotations being that anyone experiencing long periods of homelessness are in some manner faced with disabling conditions when the homeless population at large are faced with obstacles that force them to face long periods of either shelter dependency or periods of seeking alternative living arrangements weather they be rough sleeping couch jumping vehicle dwelling or other possibilities. By research done by the Us department of housing and urban development, and the united states Interagency counsel on homelessness, 10 to 20 percent of the homeless population are effected by these disabling conditions.
Of the Homeless populations recent count totals there are still on any given night in America 900 thousand to 2.2 million people homeless in America. Taking these rough figures into account and going to the highest of there totals approximately 440 thousand Homeless individuals in this country are Chronically so. It is believed that the best way to house these individuals is by the model of permanent supportive housing. it being most cost effective, in the case of those needing help in there debilitating conditions. This I also Believe is the best possible solution.
But this is the approach that is used to address the entirety of the homeless population, It forgoes the needs of the other 80% of the homeless population and independent of this model for housing there is no viable alternative available for more cost effective ways to bring stability to peoples lives which might be of a lesser degree. It is an all or nothing approach. And Has for over 2 decades been the Standard of every homeless help organization, and Federally funded community development, or corporate block grant recipient in the help industry.
It is something that Has To this point in History failed It is by far the most costly and most ineffective program ever to have been sponsored by both public and private money, It has to date since it inception in the last 2 decades been funded with government grants alone in excess of over 800billion dollars at the expense of the American tax payer, and is overshadowed by private sector donations, which are estimated annually to surpass Government funding by a margin of 53%.
If at the very best outcome to the solution placed before us with a One Hundred Percent Success rate the model we now work with will at best house only 20% of the homeless individuals in this country, and those are mostly people receiving social security or eligible to receive disability dispersments. many of which have been approved for or started the section 8 housing requirements. We are failing at a level that future generations will look at and will think us mad. But with people who are in this industry the grant writers, the boards of directors the legal teams and the industry heads have much to lose if we seek viable alternatives to a broken system and this is something it seems that no one is willing to address, I would ask everyone interested in helping the homeless please do help stand together and call for accountability of the system which we have and lets rethink the funding of a 20 percent solution, and address the problem in a manner it deserves, where the homeless are no longer blanketed by the guidelines in place and deal with them on a individual basis. Lets try and do something different and innovative lets address the needs of the individual rather than the group, Lets give them what they need and not dictate the need of organizations, lets look at what is going on in this industry and in the looking remember, Failure is Job security for these helpers of Us.

We Yes We.
We are found too be In a Country where Both Common sense and The Educated Mind Are found to be elusive. The reports from the Us.Gov and from Us.org various web sites Have released estimates of another 3million Homes this coming year will Go into Foreclosure and another 3.3 million people will lose there Jobs, If the economy does not Take a turn from it's current path. They attribute this to the steady decline in American job starts IE new Jobs from New business starts, these numbers on Job losses are not at all factoring in the loss of Jobs From failed businesses, I will also for the sake of this post assume that no more businesses will close in America this year.
It is also estimated because of new foreclosures Hitting the market Housing starts will be at a all time low nationally though some markets will see growth.
We are also funding various unsustainable programs, that may in the upcoming year face long term budget Cuts.these cuts are already laid out in many pieces of house legislation already slated for legislative review.
some of these programs to be cut include student financial aid programs, dept of education,dept of housing and urban renewal, dept of the interior, department of agriculture, department of natural resources, and department of transportation. Social security Department , department of Human Resources.This is not a complete list of Departments too be cut.
However I will tell you that the department of defense and the department of homeland security, the department of emergency management, or the department of Justice, are not on any list slated for budget overhaul by the legislative branch of The united states.
We Are In the deepest part of the pool here folks we have passed our window of opportunity, to redress the Government with our concerns over their spending taxing spending policy.
While in the last 3yrs of the united states Congressional sessions.Authorized between war spending and bank bailouts and pork belly projects enlisted by those elected to serve,A whopping 4.7 trillion dollars. much of which when asked in congressional hearings sessions admittedly these Bums said they could not account for huge portions of this money in the upward sum of 1.8 trillion dollars and this is a matter of Congressional record.
congressional budget office report stated this we pay every month on the debt alone.mind you it is more than spent on most department of government annually.
Monthly Interest on the Public Debt $104,700,174,845.03
This is the most preposterous thing I have ever come across in all of my research into government spending and that only because these figures were released in Dec 2010. It overshadows anything I have ever come across in years of research. I only now share it with you because I do not believe my book will be finished before this boat sinks.

If men and women sleep on the streets at night in this country it is the fault of everyone who is aware of these facts about the men who are robbing the coffers.

Things I've learned I'ld rather not know !
List of things I've learned I'ld rather not know.
1. homeless people have an average life span 23yrs shorter than that of their housed counterparts, excluding the age group 18-24 who are in the 36yr range.
2 homeless people on a national average never have a obituary published, in 43% of cases.
3. homeless death's are at a rate of 46% higher than 10years ago.
4. homeless people are more likely than 97% of the US population, to be interned in a pauper grave yard because of lack of claims to the decedent.
5.the homeless that have their deaths written about die between the months of mid Nov- mid Jan, IE. the holidays.
6. Of the 57% that receive Obituary writings, the highest percentage receive what is I now know to be called, a news Blurb, which is an article usually placed between the national news and the sports page, somewhere between page 3 and ? depending on the size of the publication.
7.most cities in the united states consider suspicious homeless deaths as what in the fine blue circle of protection is called NHI,crimes NHI is a term used for persons of suspect themselves, IE homeless, drug addicts, prostitutes, and those that society have shed from them and refers to the crime as NO HUMAN INVOLVED.
8. most people are so wrapped up in their daily grind that they don't know or give a damn.
9. the Us dept, of housing and urban development consider a person to be chronically homeless after a 2yr period.
10. at this time their average life span is not expected to last more than 15yrs. statistically.
11. I am on borrowed time.
12.If I don't die between Nov-and Jan, I most likely won't even get a blurb.

Stark realities of homelessness,
There is something that I often don't talk about with reference to homelessness, the reason I don't talk about it is because of the fact that I am no longer addicted, and i am free from the plague of substance abuse, I however am surrounded by people who are, so I fell like it is something I must address.
Many view homeless people as addicted, and broken and individuals beyond help, or unable to help themselves, and people often say God helps those who help themselves, I've even heard people without any proclamation of faith say these exact words, and there is no truth in this, as a person of faith I know God Helps anyone who cares to cry out to Him.
But that is not what I am addressing I am addressing this from the homeless perspective because i am not so far removed from the problem that I do not understand the stark realities that accompany being homeless.
when one is Homeless they are often confronted with a felling of helplessness as to the reality of their daily existence.
there is also what I would most like to convey to people a great deal of depression associated with the overwhelming feelings of loneliness and despair, that are prevalent in your daily struggle and that is what people seem to least understand, I have had people say if it where me i would just pick myself up by the bootstraps and go on, and I will tell you you live a life of comfort, and ease and no you would not, like any of us out here you would spend your day looking hoping or begging for your next meal.
And when you had accomplished that feat, you would then try to provide some amount of comfort to yourself, and that comes in many forms for some it is drugs for some a drink but at the end of the day, it is just something to keep your mind off of the reality of who you have become, and to convince yourself that your dreams are still achievable.
If any believe that it is a simple thing to beat this monster of indignity is because they have never experienced the indignity itself. But ask yourselves this how many times have you avoided the eyes of some poor homeless beggar, from the fear that he might ask you to part with a small portion of your abundance,
and for those that have little it, is a little thing, because in all of my years out Here on the streets of this great country. I have found, those who are in the poorest position to give are the most giving.
I have in my Homeless life, been spat on by a man in an Mercedes, and what i know was a tailored three piece suit.
and it is not something of an anomaly for someone who is homeless to experience, once you've been out here as long as I have there is nothing new under the sun.
and it is this feeling of being so much less of a person and of so little value to the rest of the world that is the true battle of regaining ones place in this world that the homeless are faced with, the addiction is a simple thing once you have returned to them their value as a human being.
But when Men in Higher positions in this life have confronted you with the fact that you are a broken beyond repair Human being for long enough you begin to believe it.
So next time anyone passes by a homeless person on the street you have the choice are you going to give unto them dignity with a look or a hello or even a smile or are you going to add to the indignity by pretending they do not exist?
I now am able to say to myself daily Praise God for what I have and with the blessing He has Given Me and the depth of my understanding of Mankind and what drives them beyond measure I am now at peace in all of my abundance, I wouldn't trade my life for any of yours, I will however Pray For everyone equally from the poor beggar to the, Kings of this world.

God Has blessed You Ted Williams The Golden Voice
Just days ago, Ted Williams was homeless and pan-handling on the side of the street.
Today he's been thrust into the national spotlight.
Video of the Columbus man belting out his best radio voice is a viral sensation.
It caught the attention of the Cleveland Cavilers and Metro Detroit-based Quicken Loans who offered him work and the mortgage for a home.
But a reality check today for those thinking that all homeless people need to get a fresh-start is a job and roof over their heads.
Fr. Tom Lumpkin says unfortunately it is not that easy.
Fr. Lumpkin is the director of the Catholic Worker Day House in Detroit.
While he hadn't heard of Williams' story, he points out that cases like this are rare.
"Most of the homeless are so damaged they can't recover", Fr. Lumpkin said.
Damaged by years of addiction and mental illness.
The second chance given to Ted Williams is heartwarming, but the hope among some homeless advocates is that it will raise awareness.
Not just that there are talented Americans living on the streets, but more importantly the great need for resources to help get to the heart of the homeless epidemic.
Fr. Lumpkin says the main issue is a lack of resources, especially here in Metro Detroit.
"Several area facilities have closed, making it more difficult for those seeking help for mental health issues."
Fr. Lumpkin says the amount of mentally ill living on the streets of Detroit is increasing, and may have a lot to do with the economy.
"Poor people have a lot not to like about their lives, so it's easy for them to become addicted."
Because of his instant stardom, millions of people will most likely follow Ted Williams' progress as he tries to turn his life around. It will be interesting to see not only happens with him, but with the perception people have of the homeless.
Will we see a greater push to provide resources for the mentally ill and addicted? More funding? Time will tell.

DETROIT MI $ 15,234,947.00 funding is not the issue metropolitan Detroit received a grant of the afor mentioned amount for the period of 2010-2011 where has this money gone I'll tell you it has went into the pockets of the profiteers of homelessness, it is sad that the are given free reign to absorb the astronomical amount of money they receive in administrative cost and continue to do nothing.
yet the blame is passed on to the homeless community them selves because they are beyond repair.
We if we are to be in this fight must understand that Men like Fr Thomas Lumpkin are part of the problem and not the solution he has been in the field to long and has come to think that since their tired and ill conceived solutions where the answer and that the failing is the people they are trying to serve.
You first and foremost are serving human beings Men and women who are as worthy and deserving of a home as anyone else. lets us Not forget the who and be so mindful of the How.
The truth is the How has been established with the allocations given annually by government grants, section 8 vouchers and by private sector donation. the money to solve the problem is already there but with no accountability in place it disappears as fast as it is allocated.
By the Us HUD office statistics, we spend over 68.980.00 a year per homeless person, that being said why are we not housing them with this money, I have said it before and will continue to say it until I can no longer draw a breath of life given me by God
as long as men continue to profit from homelessness there will be homelessness.
while I may not be, my homeless brother Ted Williams golden voice and in know way wish to diminish the blessing he has received, I am a voice , and with it I say To all you nay Sayers May Ted Go on to prove you all wrong May He be blessed in ways you critics will never Know for many Just want to see Him fail so they can say see it is these people.
God has Blessed You Ted Williams From Him There is No pressure for you to Be anything But His. Be blessed always My Friend, by recognizing where your blessing flowed from.
